Project Cover Image

Problem :

Many people want to pick mushrooms but lack the knowledge and confidence to do so safely.
Users are afraid of accidentally picking poisonous mushrooms and often rely on others for help.

Goal :

Design a user-friendly mobile app that:

  • Makes mushroom identification safer

  • Builds user confidence

  • Encourages people to explore nature

Target Group:

  • Age: 20–50

  • Interested in nature

  • Beginner → intermediate mushroom knowledge

  • Comfortable using mobile apps

Enligt din research:

  • Vissa är nybörjare och rädda

  • Vissa vill utveckla sin kunskap

  • Alla vill ha något enklare än böcker

Summary :

Through competitor analysis and interviews:

Problems with existing apps:
  • Only scanning feature

  • Poor visual design

  • Low trust

  • Paid features

  • Feels unreliable

Solution

I designed an app that combines:

  • Scan function with guided steps

  • Clear warning system

  • Map for saving mushroom locations

  • Quiz for learning

  • Info pages for education

Process

1. Wireframing

Started with low-fidelity sketches to explore structure and flows:

  • Scan flow

  • Map interaction

  • Quiz and info pages

2. User Testing

Based on feedback, I improved usability by:

  • Adding navigation buttons

  • Creating clearer selections

  • Improving page structure

  • Adding top navigation for orientation

3. Iteration

Further improvements included:

  • Better map usability

  • Clear “add location” button

  • Category structure

  • Better search experience

Design System

The visual identity focuses on clarity, trust, and nature.

  • Soft natural color palette

  • Clean typography (Roboto)

  • Rounded UI elements

  • Clear icon system

Final Design

The final app includes:

  • Scan screen with guidance

  • Warning popup for safety

  • Interactive map

  • Search with categories

Result

The project shows how UX design can:

  • Reduce fear and uncertainty

  • Improve trust in digital tools

  • Make learning interactive

  • Encourage outdoor activity

DESIGN THINKING

This project explores how design can turn a risky and uncertain activity into a safe and guided experience.

By combining education, interaction, and clear feedback, the app helps users feel confident and in control.
